Recipients must have been actively involved in the cabin
safety/security arena for a period of not less than ten
(10) years – or have been responsible for a major
program or significant project dedicated to the
advancement of cabin safety. Such Award may also
recognize an individual specifically for a lifetime of
achievement in cabin safety and/or posthumously.
Sponsor
The
Southern California Safety Institute (SCSI).
Selection
Guidelines
The
recipient(s) will be chosen by a vote of the Selection
Committee of the International Aircraft Cabin Safety
Symposium’s Executive Committee. Such Selection
Committee shall be comprised of four (4) international
and four (4) U.S. members of the Executive Committee.
Initially, SCSI and the current Awards Committee will
select the Selection Committee.
An
Awards Chair shall be named by SCSI. The Chair will be
responsible for preparing and distributing a voting
ballot and copies of the nomination letters to each
member of the Selection Committee. The ballot will list
all nominees. Each Selection Committee member will be
instructed to choose the top three nominees and mark
each of the three with a number “1”, “2” or “3”, with
the understanding that a number “1” is the highest
ranking. The votes are ranked as follows: number “1”
is five points, number “2” is three points and number
“3” is one point. The Chair will tabulate the votes and
report the results to SCSI.
A
deadline for such vote within the Selection Committee
will be established – and shall occur no later than two
(2) months prior to commencement of the Symposium.
If a
nominee is not selected, such nominee will be considered

including being made available on SCSI’s website. The
solicitation of qualified nominees shall also be made
within the worldwide cabin safety community via industry
publications, websites and media, as determined by the
Executive Committee.
Award
A
plaque and/or appropriate citation will be presented to
each recipient on the first day of the Symposium. The
ability of a recipient to attend will not preclude their
selection.
Publicity
The
recipient(s) of the Award (and related accomplishments)
will be posted on SCSI’s website and made available to
selected news and industry media, as determined by the
Executive Committee.

On line survey seeks specialists views on aircraft cabin fires
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has
launched an on-line survey to gain the views of cabin crew,
flight crew, trainers and other interested parties on the
current training practises and standards involved in dealing
with in-flight fires. The survey will help inform an
evaluation of current fire training practices and standards
for cabin crew that has been commissioned by the CAA. The
study is entitled: ‘Training Needs Analysis for Cabin Crew
Fire Training’ and will be carried out by RGW Cherry &
Associates Ltd.
Janice Fisher, Head of the CAA Cabin
Safety Office said: “An in-flight fire is one of the most
serious threats to the safety of an aircraft. Cabin crew are
both the first and last line of defence in such an event and
it is important to ensure that their training enables them
to deal effectively with an in-flight fire. “Cabin crews
receive extensive training on emergency procedures,
including dealing with fires, but a number of training
issues have emerged in recent years that have led us to
commission the study.”
The work will evaluate current and
possible future issues and identify potential improvements
in existing fire training to ensure that crews have the most
appropriate skills to deal with the threat of fire. Janice
Fisher added: “The on-line survey is crucial to the analysis
and is a valuable opportunity for those who are involved in
this subject to comment on fire training and contribute
ideas for improvement.”
The survey, which asks for no
personal data, can be completed through the following link:
